You may have noticed a new design popping up in my shop and on my social media pages. It has been a work in progress for several months now, so I am really excited to get to share it with you today!
Now that art is my vocation, I am very mindful of the fact that my feelings and circumstances impact what I create. Sometimes these factors make it difficult to be creative. Other times, it is these very factors that provide inspiration – and that was the case with this new design.
The last few months have been quite chaotic. It has been a true “busy season” of life, coupled with many unexpected twists and turns. Yet, in the midst of the chaos, I have had an underlying sense of hope. For me, that hope is my faith in eternal life. It is as if I finally understand what the Bible means when it speaks of “living in the hope of eternal life” (Titus 1:2).
It is because of this hope that I can be “afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed…” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Yes, I have been afflicted, perplexed, struck down…but I have not been crushed, I have never been driven to despair, and I have not been destroyed. At the end of each chaotic day, there is always a root of hope in my spirit – a hope that this broken, changeful world is not going to last forever.
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” – C.S. Lewis
So how does this translate to my new design series? Vivian means “life or alive” and is inspired by the joy and hope that comes amid the chaos of life.
- The gold shapes represent the daily structure of life that tends to remain the same.
- The watercolor represents the chaos felt with the daily aspects of life that are changeful, uncertain, and broken.
- The florals represent the daily growth of life – the hope that life won’t be changeful forever – the hope of a new life to come.
I hope Vivian and the products I integrate it with will bring a reminder of the hope that is found in the promise of eternal life amidst a chaotic and changeful world.
